FACTS & FIGURES
Japanese colonial rule (1910-1945) was an atrocious experience for Koreans. Hundreds of thousand were forced into labour in Japanese industries or drafted as sexual slaves for Japanese soldiers. Koreans were forced to adopt an assimilation policy, which prohibited them from speaking the Korean language, forced to adopt Japanese names and pledge loyalty to the Japanese emperor.
