On January 20, 1960 the Chinese Postal Authorities issued a set of postage stamps to publicize the opening of the National Agricultural Exhibition Hall (NAEH). The construction is one of the Ten Great Buildings that were built in Beijing in 1959, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. They were part of architecture and urbanism initiative of the “Great Leap Forward”; an economic and social campaign by the Communist Party of China from 1958 to 1961. The campaign was led by Mao Zedong (1893 – 1976) and aimed to rapidly transform the country from an agrarian economy into a socialist society through rapid industrialization and collectivization.
