In September 1930, the airship Graf Zeppelin, carried out a survey flight around the Baltic Sea. After departing from Friedrichshafen, Germany the flight went further over the Baltic States, Finland and Sweden and then back to Germany (Friedrichshafen, Berlin, Danzig (today Gdańsk, part of Poland), Memel - East Prussia (now Klaipėda, part of Lithuania), Libau (today Liepāja part of Latvia), Riga, Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, Jönköping, Greifswald, Berlin, Friedrichshafen).
During the trip, mail was delivered at several places but it was only in Finland that mail was received for further transport to Germany. Initially, the airship had intended to land at Helsinki, but...
