FACTS & FIGURES
This year there were no pomp and military parades in Berlin. Congratulatory telegrams were received from the leaders of Italy, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Hungary, and Spain, but none was sent from the United States. The telegram sent by Benito Mussolini read: "While the German people are celebrating your birthday I want to convey heartiest wishes in the name of the Fascist Government and the Italian people in the firm confidence that the German people will victoriously stand the test to which they are being subjected." Hitler replied: "I return your greetings in the unshakable belief that our allied nations, united through common conceptions of the world and through common aims, will come off successfully in the struggle for their vital rights."
