On March 11, 1944 the Reichspost issued a stamp to commemorate the 1,200th Anniversary of the foundation of the city of Fulda. Fulda lies on the river Fulda between the Rhön and Vogelsberg mountains in Hesse, central Germany. It developed around a Benedictine abbey founded in 744 by Saint Sturm (705-779), a disciple of Saint Boniface (675-754).
