In July, 1944, the Reichspost issued a stamp to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the foundation of the Albertus-Universität Königsberg (Albertus University in Königsberg) in Eastern Prussia. Founded in 1544, as a purely Lutheran place of learning, by Albert (1490-1568) the first duke of Prussia the University soon became the center of attraction for men mainly from Prussia, Poland, and Lithuania.
