‘Parahyba do Norte’ is the former name of the city of Joao Pessoa, capital of the Paraíba State in Brasil. On July 26, 1930, during the Brazilian Revolution of 1930, the governor of the city, João Pessoa Cavalcanti de Albuquerque (1878-1930), was assassinated in Recife by his political adversary, João Duarte Dantas.
