This is a set of seven stamps issued in November 1937 to celebrate the achievements of the Soviet aviation industry, depicting most notable of the latest aircraft. In 1930s aviation industry in the USSR was developing rapidly and its popularity had no equals. The annual ‘Aviation Day’ on August 18 was established in 1933 and became a national public holiday “in order to further promote civil and military aviation among the masses”. The air parade at Tushino airfield in Moscow was held on that day. In 1937 the parade was attended by nearly a million people, observing the masses of aircraft spelling in the sky ‘LENIN’, ‘STALIN’ and ‘USSR’.
