The German Derby is an annual race for three-year-old colts and fillies, usually run at Hamburg-Horn over a distance of 2,400 meters (about 1½ miles). The event was established in 1869, and it was originally called the Norddeutsches Derby. It became known as the Deutsches Derby in 1889. For most of its history the race has been held at Hamburg.
