A set of thirteen stamps was issued by the Reichspost on March 11, 1944 to commemorate the ‘Heros Memorial Day’. The stamps depict images of the glorious German Army. However by March 1944, the situation for the mighty German Army on all fronts is devastating. The, once an ally, Italy has capitulated and declared war on Hitler, there are almost daily British air raids on Berlin and other big cities, the Americans are closing in from the South and the Soviet troops advance into Poland. The noose is getting tighter and the end of the Third Reich is approaching.
