Haile Selassie honored Roosevelt by ordering in 1947 the Roosevelt Memorial Issue of Ethiopian postage stamps in commemoration of the second anniversary of the death of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In his first venture on the way back from the Yalta conference, Roosevelt flew to Egypt. On the evening of February 13, 1945 aboard the USS Quincy, anchored in Great Bitter Lake in the Suez Canal, he entertained King Farouk of Egypt, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia.
