On January 6, 1936, the Third Reich Post Office issued a stamp to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Lufthansa. Deutsche Lufthansa was the German flag carrier throughout the Third Reich era. Since 1933, the airline was regarded as an official instrument of the State under the total control of the ruling Nazi Party.
The history of Lufthansa parallels the development of aviation in Germany. After the Great War, the German government favored the development of a national airline system made up of a number of associated regional airlines. As a result, ‘Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft’ was created on the 6th of January 1926 in Berlin by the merger between ‘Deutscher Aero Lloyd’ and ‘Junkers Luftverkehr’. The company's logo was taken from Aero Lloyd and its blue and yellow house colors were taken from Junkers.
