FACTS & FIGURES
On February 17, 1939, the Reichspost issued a set of three stamps for the “Berlin International Automobile and Motorcycle Exhibition”, held from February 17 to March 5, 1939. The stamps were available for 1 RM at the entrance of the exhibition. That was the last Motor Show before the outbreak of World War II and it was attended by a record 825,000 visitors. The central theme of the exhibition was undoubtedly the debut of the first production-ready “KdF-Wagen” automobile. The international press soon dubbed it the “Beetle” for its distinctive rounded shape.
