OThe ‘Day of German Art’ (Tag der Deutschen Kunst) was first celebrated between the 16th and 18th of July as kickoff for the annual ‘Great German Art Exhibition’ (Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung) in the House of Art in Munich (Haus der Deutschen Kunst). Paintings, sculpture and other events combined to celebrate a strenuously Nazified vision of Teutonic culture - one in which German legends and myths were bent to the service (and the aesthetic) of the Reich. This year, the Day of German Art was held in Munich on the weekend of 14-16 July, 1939.
