FACTS & FIGURES
On April 22, 1939, the Reichspost issued a set of two stamps to celebrate the "Reichsgartenschau 1939" (1939 State Horticultural Exhibition) held at Stuttgart. The Reichsgartenschau 1939 followed the short tradition of the imperial garden shows in Dresden (1936) and in Essen (1938). The exhibition opened after 26 months of labor to convert a former quarry of some 75 acres located in the Killesberg district into an exhibition ground on 22 April 1939. It had been designed by landscape architect Hermann Mattern (1902-1971) and architect Gerhard Graubner in 1936 and implemented by landscape architect Eugen Bauer (1897-1970)....
