On June 20, 1941, the Reichspost issued a stamp to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the “German Derby” horse race. The German Derby is an annual race for three-year-old colts and fillies, run at Hamburg-Horn over a distance of 2,400 meters (about 1½ miles). The German Derby became known as the "Grosser Deutschlandpreis der Dreijahrigen" um "Das Blaue Band" (the "Greater Germany Sweepstakes of Three-year-olds...
