FACTS & FIGURES
On January 29, 1944 the Reichspost issued a stamp to commemorate the 11th Anniversary of the Seizure of Power by Adolf Hitler and the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (NSDAP). Eleven years earlier, on January 30, 1933, President Paul von Hindenburg (1847-1934) named Adolf Hitler, leader or Führer of the National Socialist German Workers Party (or Nazi Party), as Chancellor of Germany. The supposed “One Thousand Year Reich” had started. On the same night, the Nazis organized a massive torchlight parade in Berlin to celebrate the appointment of Hitler as Chancellor of Germany. Adolf Hitler and Hermann Göring greeted the participants in the parade as they passed beneath the window of Hitler's new office.
