FACTS & FIGURES
On April 14, 1944, the Reichspost issued a postage stamp to celebrate Adolph Hitler's 55th Birthday. Between November 18, 1943 and March 1944 alone, Berlin was bombed 24 times by over 1,000 planes of the combined forces of the RAF, RCAF, USAAF and the Soviets. RAF set a new record for a single air raid, dropping 4,500 tons of bombs for Hitler's 55th birthday. On that day, German troops passed under the Brandenburg Gate as part of Adolf Hitler's Birthday celebrations in Berlin. People set up Nazi flags amidst rubble, and people set up signs reading ‘Mauern Brachen, Aber Unsere Herzen Nicht' (Walls may break, but not our hearts). Banners like this one were put up to raise morale and to mark Hitler's birthday.
