Italian Cyrenaica (present-day eastern Libya) was an Italian colony that existed from 1927 to 1934. It was part of the Italian North African territory conquered from the Ottoman Empire in 1911.

The Graf Zeppelin had flown over Cyrenaica during its Orient Flight back in 1929. On May 29 1933, the Graf Zeppelin, under the command of Ernst Lehmann visited Rome as a means of propaganda orchestrated by the NAZI Regime in Germany and Fascist Italy.
