In 1933, LZ 127 flew to Rome, Italy for a demonstration flight over the eternal city organized by Third Reich Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels and the fascist government of Italy.

At 24 minutes past midnight, May 29, the Graf Zeppelin under the command of Ernst Lehmann left Friedrichshafen, cruised over the Rhone Valley and Marseilles, then over Nice, Genoa, and landed at Ciampino Airport at 6:14 PM. Goebbels, who arrived by train the previous day, was on the landing field, accompanied by Benito Mussolini, King Victor Emmanuel and ltalo Balbo, Italian Minister for Air.
