When in 1928 it was announced that the ‘Graf Zeppelin’ was planned to make its first intercontinental trip from Germany to the United States with Dr. Eckener in command, most people expected that the US Post Office would issue special stamps to celebrate the event. However, the refusal of Postal Authorities to release any commemorative issue, led Albert Charles Roessler, a controversial figure in the world of philately, to make up for this omission by creating his own zeppelin stamp....
